After many years of on-off collaboration playing mostly other artists’ music, the boys of KING DEAD decided to start creating original tunes just for the hell of it. The band’s debut Bagel Boys EP (2020) relies on improvisation and communication to spin out tracks from one or two central ideas to form a cohesive whole, much like bagels have holes, which is a homophone of whole. Their follow-up EP2 (2022) sets sail into different waters, presenting to the listener a set of focused compositions that are more akin to real songs, and this change suits the band just fine. After all, boats have life preservers, which have holes, like bagels.
